These men called the Scribes and the Pharisees kept arguing against Jesus, not minding his good works and convincing response. Their pride hardened their hearts until Jesus took them to the scene of John’s baptism.
And many who came to him believed. If we can recall the awesome scene of our baptism or first holy Communion and pick up our childlike faith with which we embraced our baptismal graces and promises, it will enable us to submit our human weaknesses before the throne of God’s mercy and never to rationalise over them like the Jewish elders.
